Traditional Owners call this place ‘poison Country’. Spanning more than 46,000 hectares in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, the Wittenoom Asbestos Management Area is the largest contaminated area in the southern hemisphere, blanketed in deadly asbestos.

The contamination prevents Banjima Traditional Owners from accessing these thousands of hectares of Country.
