‘The state government is weighing up its response to an ultimatum from traditional owners to remediate Wittenoom’s deadly asbestos tailings or face legal action.
Banjima Native Title Aboriginal Corporation revealed on Thursday night it would wait no longer for action to clean up the three million tonnes of tailings dumped by CSR in Wittenoom Gorge between 1943 and 1966.
The state government has been given two options: enter mediation to figure out how best to clean up the tailings or face litigation through the courts.’
