Yaara Bou Melhem’s Yurlu | Country was crowned Best Feature Documentary at the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) Awards on Thursday evening.
Hosted by Narelda Jacobs at ACMI, the ceremony concluded the four-day conference, which drew 740 delegates and 85 local and international decision-makers.
Yurlu | Country, produced by Illuminate Films, delves into the devastating impact of asbestos mining in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The jury described the film as a “profoundly moving” exposé on environmental devastation in Western Australia, specifically highlighting the “significant collaboration” with Banjima Elder Maitland Parker.
