Thank You - FIFDH Geneva & the UN Human Rights Council

In March, our impact team — Director/Producer Yaara Bou Melhem and Impact Producer Ann Megalla — presented the Yurlu | Country campaign for change at the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) in Geneva. As one of the world’s leading platforms for human rights storytelling, FIFDH’s #ImpactDays brought together global changemakers using the power of film to illuminate injustice and inspire action.

Our selection for Impact Days elevated our impact goals: to support truth-telling and healing through the powerful story of Banjima Elder Maitland Parker and the urgent need to #CleanUpWittenoom.

Across three intense and inspiring days, we engaged in high-level strategy workshops, shared our campaign with international peers and funders, and strengthened relationships with our existing impact partners at the UN Human Rights Council. We also forged new alliances — laying the foundation for the next phase of our impact campaign.

Yurlu | Country’s relationship with the UN Human Rights Council extends back to September 2024, when the family of Maitland Parker along with Director/Producer Yaara Bou Melhem joined a special talks session alongside the UN Special Rapporteur on Toxics and Human Rights, Dr Marcos Orellana – who also features in the film.
